Dawn Eggert - Dilettantes Request Rabbitry

Welcome to Dilettantes Request Rabbitry. We raise Dutch in black, blue, tort and gray. We also are working on producing black and blue harlequin Dutch. We also raise Florida Whites, and a few Polish and Havanas. We are members of the American Rabbit Breeders Association, Inc and the American Dutch Rabbit Club.

My father got into rabbits back in the spring of 1981 when I was two years old. I showed my first rabbit when I was eight at the local county fair in Open class. I picked a rabbit based on personality alone. I took a crossbred doe weighing about 4 1/2 pounds. Her name was “Tuxedo.” She was out of my first pet rabbit “SilverBullet” (who turned out to be a she instead of a he) and “Crazy Horse” a white New Zealand buck. “Tuxedo” placed very high in the fryer class, won the pet class, and was runner up in the fur class. We (Tuxedo and I) were beat out by a Standard Rex in the fur class. The entire week of running back and forth to the fair twice every day was quite an adventure for an eight year old. After my first fair, I was hooked!

Then, when I was about 9 years old, we started testing out breeds to find out which one I liked the best. By the time I was 10, the Dutch breed had caught my fancy and stolen my heart. Since, 1988, Dutch have been a mainstay in our barn. Currently, we are raising blacks, blues, torts and grays. We are also proud supporters of the Harlequin variety of Dutch being developed by Jill Dobson of Oregon. She holds the Certificate of Development.
